Alternative Spellings: Narcisa
Narrative:
In Greek mythology, the bearer of the source form of this name (Latinized and adopted into English as Narcissus) fell in love with his own image reflected in a pool. He gave his name to the disorder of obsessive self-absorption (Narcissism) and to a kind of lily.
Though the name is of such ancient origin that its meaning cannot be determined with any certainty, some have attempted to link it to the Greek term narke (''numbness''), which forms the root of the word ''narcotic.''
