Narrative:
Thais was the name of a courtesan of the 4th century B.C. who traveled with Alexander the Great during his world-conquering career. She is traditionally credited with great wit and cleverness, and legend has it that she persuaded Alexander to destroy Persepolis, the Persian capitol, in retaliation for the rapacious attacks of the Persians on her native country.
She is believed to have married Ptolemy I, one of Alexander's generals and inheritor of part of his empire.
